inSPIREd Sunday

Sally and Beth host inSPIREd Sunday!

August 2017 - Baden ON

I would have loved to go in, but it was Sunday and services were taking place.

Livingston Presbyterian
Livingston Presbyterian Church in Baden was built in 1895.

Livingston Presbyterian Church was built in 1894-95, a project initiated by James Livingston’s donation of land and funding. But despite Livingston’s involvement, the church’s establishment was a community project from the start; 50 congregational members pledged over $1,400 in additional funds.

Livingston Presbyterian has enormous cultural and heritage value, partly because it is tightly connected to the family of James Livingston, builder of Baden’s Castle Kilbride, which is itself a National Historic Site.

The church opened in 1895. The only Presbyterian church in Wilmot Township, the building is a fine example of Gothic Revival styling, with pointed arches, buttresses and a variety of window types, including many pointed arch windows, as well as Gothic windows of varying sizes. The building’s tower, gables, corner parapets and louvres are also mentioned in the Heritage Designation; these features mark the church as a significant example of an architectural style no longer used.
